According to a 3 September report by MioComune.tv, local Carabinieri Forestali and the Guardia Costiera inspected a business in Scalea. About 80 cubic metres of tyres were reportedly stored in part of the premises, while a document check was said to indicate that the permitted storage period before disposal had been exceeded. The area used for the tyre deposit was placed under judicial seizure.

The inspection also covered a 44-square-metre canopy, internal building alterations and records for sludge and oily residues from the site's water collection and treatment system. The operator was reported to the judicial authorities over alleged waste-management and planning violations. This is an investigative stage: the allegations are not a final determination of guilt, and the person concerned is presumed innocent unless convicted by a final judgment.
