Scalea was listed among locations involved in the Regional Air Mobility project during the opening of the new terminal at Rome Urbe airport. The network is backed by Italy’s aviation authority ENAC and ENAC Servizi. Local reporting says Transport Minister Matteo Salvini mentioned the town in his speech, with Scalea mayor Mario Russo also present.

The announcement follows a June agreement among ENAC, ENAC Servizi, the Calabria Region and the municipality to upgrade Scalea’s existing airfield and work towards its inclusion as a territorial airport. The source also says technical, authorisation and organisational work comes next. It gives no airline, ticket sales, confirmed route or launch date for scheduled services.

The project could eventually offer residents and property owners a faster connection with Rome and other smaller centres, but it cannot yet be used to plan a journey. Travellers need to wait for formal operating approvals and then for an operator or carrier to publish routes, timetables, fares and conditions.
