The Coast Guard carried out two inspections on free-access beach areas in Scalea. According to MioComune.tv, citing information released by the Guardia Costiera, umbrellas, loungers and beach chairs occupied about 520 square metres of public shoreline without the required authorization.

In one case, the equipment allegedly created what was effectively a private beach operation on public land; in the other, inspectors reportedly found an unauthorized extension of an existing beach business. The equipment was seized and removed, and both areas were reported to have been returned to public use.

Two tourism-business operators were reported to the Paola public prosecutor on suspicion of unauthorized occupation of public maritime property. This is an allegation, not a final judgment, and liability remains for the competent authorities to determine. Visitors may use the reopened public areas while observing local signs and applicable beach rules.
