On 1 October d&b announced free vCore: Soundscape software preproduction with binaural headphone preview, linked to Create.Control 1.4. We checked the announcement, not an installation. The preview is not a measurement of a particular venue's acoustics.
Possible use: a sound designer and director could review the movement of a voice or effect around the audience early, spotting unclear transitions. Some creative decisions could be made before costly stage-build time begins. This is our working scenario, not evidence of a specified number of hours saved.
What needs to be solved: separate artistic planning from operational checks. Headphones cannot reveal every consequence of reflections, listener position or real loudspeaker limits. Important scenes still require rehearsal on the actual signal chain and listening from several locations. Home preparation alone cannot guarantee a correctly engineered show.
Optimistic horizon: a team experienced with the platform could, in our estimate, test one limited scene and compare the design with the venue within 1–2 weeks. Compatible software and equipment must be available. This estimates a first workflow pilot, not a manufacturer promise or a replacement for calibration.
