On 22 September, d&b audiotechnik introduced System Auralization for ArrayCalc. Users can play their own material through a binaural model of the proposed system and move virtually between listening positions. A binaural preview provides separate spatial cues to each ear and is listened to through headphones.
The aim is to compare configurations before installation. According to the manufacturer, changes to speaker placement, line-array geometry and amplifier filters affect the listening preview in real time. Saved configurations can be switched while playing the same recording.
The key limitation is direct sound. The preview alone cannot establish how an actual hall will sound once reflections, reverberation, the audience and installation details are added. An available beta and a feature description are not independent validation of simulation accuracy.
Editorial outlook: the tool could make design comparisons and discussions with event organizers easier. On-site measurement and listening remain necessary for commissioning. A useful practical test would compare the relative differences between simulated configurations with those heard in the real venue.
